Setting the Mood – Rain Outside, Clouds Inside
Some days just hit you different. The sky turns grey, the rain taps against the window, and the world outside slows down for a moment. That’s when you know it’s time to settle in, light up, and lose yourself in the best games to play stoned on a rainy day.
But not just any game will do. The best rainy-day games are the ones that pull you in, melt your stress, and make time disappear. We have curated rainy day games that provide cozy comfort, take you on mind-expanding trips, or are so immersive you forget where you are as the reality of spacetime distorts around you.
Rainy day stoner gaming rituals
Here’s the blueprint for the perfect rainy day stoner session:
- You’re close enough to the window to hear the rain.
- Window’s cracked enough to smell that crisp, earthy rain scent drift in and swirl with the smoke in the air.
- Lights off or low. Basking in the glow of the screen. Good vibes only.
- Robe secured. Controller locked and loaded.
- Hydration within reach. Snacks on standby. No obligations for the rest of the day.
- A deep inhale, a long exhale… you’re in it now.
Let’s dive into the absolute best games to play when you’re stoned on a rainy day; the ones that hit the vibes just right.

Chill Exploration & Cozy Vibes
These games let you wander, discover, and soak in the atmosphere. Perfect when you’re comfortably stoned and want to get lost.
- Stardew Valley – Nothing says rainy day comfort like vibing on your farm, planting crops, fishing, and getting deep into the town’s secrets. Just don’t get too caught up exploring the caves and forget to water your crops!
- Minecraft – Whether you’re building a fortress, mining in the dark, or dodging zombies in the rain, it’s the ultimate creative escape. Especially on a heavily modded server like ours (105 mods and haven’t crashed yet), you can casually flex your creativity in a calm, relaxing setting – until night falls anyway and you remember Minecraft isn’t always about peace & love.
- Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders – Casual melancholy vibes mixed with 360 backflip tricks down a mountain. It’s just your skis, the trail, and a steady drizzle outside. Criminally underrated, especially because of the flawless online multiplayer/co-op.
- Sea of Thieves – Between the ocean swells, stormy skies, and solo sailing or squad treasure runs, it hits perfect on a rainy day. Sail where ever the wind takes you, blowing clouds and remember to play shanties along the way.

Mind-Melting & Trippy Visuals
Some games are designed to bend reality; the wave when your mind is open and ready for a good trip.
- No Man’s Sky – Endless planets, weird alien creatures, and a sense of scale that’ll make you feel tiny in the universe. Explore alone or assemble your crew to maximize the firepower. The visual sensation of flying out of a space station down to the unknown planet below is hard to surpass.
- Kenshi – A brutal, surreal sandbox where you might spend two hours crawling across the desert with your limbs broken and still feel like you’re in a meditative monk trance. This soundtrack is the perfect complement to the worlds unique visual composition. Prepare yourself, this isn’t a journey for the feint of heart.
- Elden Ring – If you’re the type who likes to zone into a deep challenge while surrounded by stunning visuals, there’s nothing like getting lost in The Lands Between. Conquer this unforgiving plane of existence one perfect dodge at a time. I wasn’t ever a big soulslike gamer, but Elden Ring took me out of my shell. Would recommend to any gamer, and it’s co-op friendly.
- Planet Coaster – Sounds weird until you’re stoned and designing rides with 80s synth music blaring, creating a surreal, neon-lit amusement empire that feels like a lucid dream. This isn’t just a park, it’s your park. These guests are ready for the time of their life and you’ll lose hours bringing it to life for them. If you grew up playing Roller Coaster Tycoon, this is a must try.

Deep Immersion Games – Forgetting the World Exists
Some games pull you in so deep, you forget your own name. These games blend immersive storytelling with profound adventure. Perfect for a rainy day session.
- Skyrim – Hours disappear when you’re the Dragon Born. One second, you’re checking out a cave system, next thing you know you’re the leader of a guild and it’s 3 AM. There’s nothing that hasn’t already been said about Skyrim but a rainy day is the right time to start your new run; just try not to be a stealth archer this time.
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – There’s no HUD clutter, no breadcrumb trail, just instinct and terrain. You spark one, glace out the window, and let the wind guide you. Hours pass as you scale mountains, glide off cliffs, and chase sunsets you didn’t plan for. It’s pure, untamed immersion. The kind where you forget your direction and love that you did.
- The Witcher 3 – When it’s raining outside and it’s raining in Novigrad, the lines blur. You’re not just playing a game, you’re living in Geralt’s world. You can almost smell the wet cobblestone and hear the muttering townsfolk as you roam. Light up, ride Roach through a storm, and tell me that’s not real escapism.
- RimWorld – The mix of emergent storytelling, unpredictable AI events, and that smooth BGM turns this colony sim into a lowkey psychedelic spiritual journey. One of the most respected games for a reason and the modding community will allow you to take this story anywhere your heart desires on a rainy day. Even if that means taking someone else’s heart.

Multiplayer & Co-Op Adventures
Sometimes, the best rainy day session isn’t solo, it’s that chaotic, smoke-filled squad energy. The kind where everyone’s baked just enough to be cracked or completely useless, and both are perfect contributions to the team.
- 7 Days to Die / Valheim / Enshrouded – You’ve got the clouds outside, haze inside, and your crew squadding up for a night of PvE madness. Building outposts, scavenging, setting things on fire by accident; it’s survival with a side of stoner improv comedy. Rain hits the window while your base gets raided and someone yells, “Where’s the food?!” It’s bliss.
- Elder Scrolls Online / World of Warcraft / RuneScape (Old School) – These MMOs hit different when you’re zoning. You fall into quests like they’re real-life errands, lose track of time grinding XP, and randomly end up debating lore with your fam over chat. The world outside disappears because you’ve got dailies to run and dungeons to crawl.
- Forza Horizon 5 – No game captures rainy day driving vibes like this. Just you, a modded Lancer Evo, some outrun or lo-fi blasting, and wet asphalt under the wheels. It’s the perfect background and foreground; gorgeous to watch, meditative to play. Drive until the storm clears and then keep going.
- Portal 2 (Co-Op) – Every session turns into a weed-fueled IQ test. One of you is galaxy-brained, the other is standing in a corner holding the wrong cube, giggling uncontrollably. And yet, it works. We’ve never finished a session without at least one “oh my god we’re idiots” moment. Pure stoner brilliance, and it has local co-op!
Personal Gaming Moments – The One That Hits All The Vibes
Everyone’s got that comfort pick, that one game where the title screen alone feels like slipping into a warm hoodie. Maybe it’s nostalgia. Maybe it’s muscle memory. But when the sky’s grey and you’re fresh into a good high, there’s always that one that calls you back.
For me? It’s Halo: Combat Evolved. Doesn’t matter how many years pass or how many new consoles drop, I’ll run through that campaign any rainy night like it’s my sacred rite.
Something about the music, the pacing, that perfect mix of silence and chaos – it’s my soul food.
If we’re talking home run gaming moments, though? Nothing has ever hit like Spec Ops: The Line. I haven’t touched it in a decade and I still feel it in my chest. That moment. You know the one. The slow realization that this wasn’t your typical war game. I sat there after the credits rolled, controller still in my hands, completely silent. That was the first time a game didn’t just entertain me, it changed how i looked at gaming entirely.

Final Thoughts: The ultimate rainy day gaming session
The rainy day sesh is sacred. A ritual. It’s not just about passing time, it’s about sinking in. Letting the weather wash over the outside world while you light up and drop into something unreal. Whether you’re wandering through fantasy forests, building bases with your squad, or floating through neon dreamscapes, the best games to play stoned on a rainy day will turn a gloomy afternoon into a legendary memory.
So next time the rain starts falling, don’t waste it. Roll up. Get comfortable. And let the game pull you in to it’s universe.
PS: VR gaming? I haven’t crossed that threshold yet. Without seeing any must-play titles so far and the barriers to entry being headsets – it has not been top of my list. But listen, the second a dev drops something truly transcendent, something that makes reality fold into the game? I’m strapping in. Smoke in hand, eyes mostly open, fully immersed. Am I missing out? Let’s talk it through in the comments.
