The Forge

From the region tour: a sunlit sand slope running down to a dense dark forest, with a pale ridge and the sea on the horizon.

The Forge · Pride is the Fall

I’ve been building a game. It’s called Pride is the Fall. A top-down sandbox in Unreal Engine 5 where the world is the main character. You? You’re not special.

The game

The world doesn’t give a damn about you

The pitch I wrote before a single line of code: Imagine a medieval sandbox where eight factions fight for territory while you start as a nobody with nothing. There are no quests. No quest markers. No main story.

The name is the thesis. Every faction in this world fell because of pride. You’ll build, recruit, conquer, and slowly become the thing that wrecked the world before you. Pride is the fall. That’s the whole damn point.

Sound like Kenshi? Good. Kenshi is why this exists, and yes, the squad finally got it running in co-op.

The five rules

Every feature serves one of these or it gets cut:

  1. The world doesn’t wait. Factions move whether you’re logged in or not.
  2. No scripted story. A drought causes a famine causes a war. Nobody wrote that.
  3. Players are factions. The sim treats you exactly like the kingdom next door.
  4. Power is built. Walls, supply lines, people. No XP bars.
  5. Death sticks. No respawn. Your successor picks up the banner.

Newest devlog

Eight creatures in a two-by-four grid on dark panels, each with its name below.
Newest Oct 22, 2026

From the Forge archive: the world, mid-remake (October 2026)

On Oct 7 I approved all eight peoples of my game walking side by side. Five days later I cut every body and started them over.

  • Eight creatures in a row on a dark background, from a mushroom-capped figure and a slim blue humanoid to a crystal-covered brute, a big ape, a boar-headed fighter, a lumpy giant and a lizard, each with its name below.
  • A wide snowy plain with two huge ring-shaped palisade walls, a small cluster of grey houses in the middle, a few tiny figures in the snow, and dark water on the horizon.
  • A town seen from high above inside a big round wall on sandy ground, its buildings sitting on a neat grid of square plots, with dense forest all around.
  • A character creator screen with a list of eight races on the left, a big grey-furred ape figure in the middle, and a race description on the right that spells the world Synthora.
  • A mossy green figure with a broad mushroom cap and root-like arms spread wide, standing at the edge of a field of tall grass.
  • A character creator screen showing a blue-grey bird person with a long beak and wide feathered wings spread out, with racial traits listed on the right.
  • Two grey lizard people with long snouts, crests and loincloths standing with arms out beside a wooden market stall, a field of tall grass behind them.
  • Two views of the same forest town at night side by side, the left one completely black and the right one moonlit, showing dark trees, a fence and pale ground.
  • A bar chart of fourteen areas scored out of five, with World runs without you highest at 3, Economy, Factions and Co-op at 2.5, nine areas at 2, Modding at 1, and a dashed line at the 2.1 average.
  • A town street seen from above at dusk in warm orange light, with square dirt plots, a lone stone column, a house with a tiled roof on the left and a few small figures.
  • A close view of a grove of low-poly trees with blocky faceted leaves, pale bare trunks and dry grass, with a snowy hill behind.
  • Two dark boar-headed brutes with tusks and pale manes, arms held out, one on a stone ledge in tall grass and one beside a wooden market stall.
